buttermilk biscuits

2 c flour
1 1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
10 tbsp Crisco
1 c buttermilk

Preheat oven to 450f. Sift together flour, 
baking soda, powder, and salt into a large bowl. 
Work in the lard with fingertips until the 
mixture is like coarse meal. Beat in the 
buttermilk until a stiff dough is formed.
Knead dough in bowl for 1 minute. 

Roll the dough out on a lightly floured 
board about 1/2 inch thick and cut out 12 to 
14 rounds. Place biscuits on a baking sheet. 
Bake 12 minutes or until nicely brown. Serve hot.
